Ballyfermot Animation Course presentation at ITFS as part of Zeitgeist Ireland
On invitation from Animation Ireland, Gwen Fagan and Orla Daly travelled to Stuttgart, Germany as part of the Irish delegation for the ITFS Zeitgeist Ireland focus.
Gwen delivered a 30-minute presentation about the Irish School of Animation at Ballyfermot College, complete with archival footage of special guest lecturer Glen Keane and an interview of notable ISA alumni Paul Young of Cartoon Saloon, who recently won an Annie for Best Director for ‘Screechers’ Reach.’ She also shared stills and video of recent student work, student life, recent facilities upgrades and investment, opportunities for student travel, the faculty, and finished up with the current ISA showreel. With thanks to all who contributed to the content, particularly Eddie Hallahan, Jolien Hampson, Annette Smyth, and Orla Daly.
In addition, the festival screened 2023 graduate films ‘Tooth Be Told’ by Sarah Enright, Mihai Rosca, Andrew Guilding, and Shannon Hegarty; and Oisin’s Return by Cian Killalea, Eimear Cooney, Murky Onyango, Wayne Cronin, and Eoin Higgins.
Alumna Holly Keating presented her recent work for the Irish National Opera in the Open-Air cinema. Holly is an award-winning director, achieving the 2020 Royal Television Society UK Student Award for best Craft in an Animated Film, as well as receiving the Emerging Director Award 2020 in the Animation Category for her grad film CTRL+ALT+Z.
There was a real sense of celebration of Irish creative talent at Germany’s flagship animation festival! With special thanks to ITFS and Animation Ireland, Culture Ireland, and the Irish Embassy, Berlin.
