BCFE Premiere + Graduate Showcase in Animation, Film, Games, and Visual Effects

Celebrating Excellence in Animation, Film , Games, and Visual Effects

Ballyfermot College of Further Education proudly hosted its annual End of Year Film Exhibition, the BCFE Premiere + Graduate Showcase, at the Irish Film Institute (IFI) on Wednesday, May 28, 2024.

This year’s showcase celebrates the exceptional achievements of students from BCFE’s VFX, Film, Animation, and Game Design programs. The exhibition featured a diverse collection of innovative works, demonstrating superb imaging, scriptwriting, concept design, and production skills.

The graduate works from the 2023-2024 academic year are original and bold, adhering to industry standards and showcasing the creativity nurtured at BCFE.

Featured genres include drama, fantasy, science fiction, psycho-thriller and comedy horror.

Themes in this year’s cohort address the conflict between reality and fantasy, mental illness and spiritual salvation; and the individual and dark societal forces.

The showcase was officially opened by IFTA-nominated BCFE Animation graduate Declan Boyle, known for his VFX work on “Black 47” and his 2024 IFTA-nominated work on “Evil Dead Rise.” Boyle’s portfolio includes acclaimed TV series such as “Brassic,” “Domina,” and “The Burning Girls.”

In addition to film and animation, game design students presented their projects, available for live play in a designated area at the IFI. Attendees could engage with these interactive experiences, including AR/VR facilitated games, following the main screening event.

The BCFE Premiere and Graduate Showcase proved to be an evening of inspiring and innovative media with invited industry members and the public witnessing the next generation of creative talent.

We are so happy that so many people got to support local talent and experience groundbreaking work from future leaders in the animation, film, games, and visual effects industries.

Promotional art for the event is sourced from “Packrat,” a collaborative animated short film by Robert Morgan and Shana Brewer-Gannon, students of the Visual Media (Animation) Program of Study 2023-2024.
