BCFE pays tribute to Sr Margaret MacCurtain First Principal of Ballyfermot College of Further Education
Sr Margaret MacCurtain was the first Principal of Ballyfermot College of Further Education (known as Senior College Ballyfermot) in 1979. She was pioneering in developing innovative curriculum to education and train students within the area in the skill needed for employment and for life. She headed up the college as model for the “prototype of future PLC’s (post-Leaving Certificate Courses).
Sr Margaret made a positive impact on many aspects of Irish Life, not just education, she engaged on social justice, feminist and human rights issues and matters in Ireland. The Irish Times on the 6th of October 2020 paid a fitting tribute to her work.
Sr Margaret sadly passed away on Monday the 5th of October 2020 and BCFE acknowledges the pioneering work she engaged in which has made the college the success it is today.
