Hildegarde Naughton welcomes Logistics Traineeship
Minister of State for Transport, Hildegarde Naughton, in this message, welcomes the initiative taken by Ballyfermot College of Further Education to provide a Traineeship in Logistics and Distribution.
She is keenly aware of the importance of addressing critical skills gaps in the freight transport, logistics and distribution sectors, which play such an important role in Ireland. Employers are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit and retain suitable candidates, and forecasts indicate that there will be high levels of demand for new entrants in these sectors in the coming years. Some of the key stakeholders in Ireland have made conscious and creative efforts to establish traineeships and apprenticeships to attract new talent and she is very glad to see such innovative initiatives as this new course from BCFE.
The Logistics and Supply Chain Skills Group, chaired by her Department, aims to support the promotion of careers, skills development and sustainable employment in the logistics and supply chain sector in Ireland.
It is vital that Education, Industry and Government work together to enhance the appeal of a career in the freight transport, logistics and distribution sectors – including opportunities for women – so that these sectors can attract and retain talent.
Yours sincerely
Hildegarde Naughton
