International Band & Business Camp 2024
The International Band & Business Camp 2024 (IBBC) was held in Hammelburg, Germany, with more than 100 students and teachers from six different countries in attendance. Students from the HND in Contemporary Music Performance, the HND in Music Production, and the BA in Media Production Management in BCFE took part. The camp has been held regularly at the Bavarian Music Academy in Hammelburg since 2005. The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg established it as the only camp of its kind in the world as part of a project with several partner schools, including BCFE, to bring together students from various cultures and nations.
A concert marked the end of the one-week camp on Friday, February 23rd. The band camp gave the players a chance to learn more about music and improve their skills in a setting with people from different cultures. With the help of experienced band coaches, they worked on songwriting projects in groups, formed bands, and practiced music together, which they played live at the final show.
The business camp taught students core competencies that are vital in the music business and gave them an insight into the music business itself. In the business game, each group played the role of a virtual record company and competed with the other teams to sign artists, secure funding and developing marketing and business plans. Coaches on the business game simulated a virtual music market and put the students in a number of situations where they had to move quickly and work as a team.
Participants in IBBC 2024 came from a number of different schools, such as BCFE, the Herman Brood Academie in Utrecht, the Fontys Rockacademie in Tilburg, Linnaeus University in Kalmar, the Leeds Conservatoire in Leeds, and Columbia College in Chicago.
