The Portrait Club at BCFE
Ballyfermot celebrity, Joe Duffy was kind enough to give 3 hours of his time to sit for the Portrait club last Monday. The Portrait club is in session on the first Monday of the month from 4.30 until 8pm with a guest sitter each month. The guest for February was local hero, Joe Duffy.
I contacted Joe back in September and he kindly agreed to sit for his portrait. He was great and a pleasure to have in the college. Anyone who has grown up in Ireland feels they know Joe, but as we have many students who come from outside of Ireland attending the college, he was a new and unfamiliar voice.
The Portrait club is just that, a club that is open to present and past students and teachers who want to keep up or improve their practice. Anyone who has been to the college in the past or even just came as a visiting lecturer is welcome to join in to paint, draw or even sculpt the sitter. Joe Duffy even had his photograph taken with a handmade pinhole camera that Brian Walsh makes with his portfolio students.
We are working towards an exhibition in the Ballyfermot Library in June as part of the colleges birthday celebrations and so we have asked people of note from the college or the area to sit for us. This is a very long list indeed, Ballyfermot has produced a lot of influential people. We have only two more sessions this year so come along but remember it is not a class, we are all in it as equals, just enjoy the process!
